County Goes Easy on Cat House
The Alachua County Commission is at odds with the High Springs city government because it has decided to take a hands off approach to regulating a cat sanctuary…
HIGH SPRINGS — Alachua County is willing to require that Haven Acres Cat Sanctuary build fully-enclosed structures for the cats there and to stop the sanctuary from burying dead cats on the property.
But the Alachua County Commission voted Tuesday to make no other requirements of the cat sanctuary, despite the High Springs City Commission’s demand for more concessions.
The two governmental entities will next discuss the issue in a Feb. 11 meeting set for 6:30 p.m. at High Springs City Hall. The meeting is required by state law as the two agencies try to settle a lawsuit initiated by High Springs.
