Sadie Darnell Draws an Opponent

February 21, 2008 By: Don Marsh Category: Candidates

Sadie Darnell, Alachua County’s first female sheriff, will have a primary opponent in August. Lonnie Scott had finished 2nd in the 2006 Democrat Primary, but it wasn’t close. Darnell had garnered 11,994 votes to 5,001 for Smith, and followed by “Butch” Jones (3,750) and Bill Davis (3,307). In November, she went on to pound Republican Emery Gainey 44,305-25,551.

There is a four year term for this office, but in 2006 the sitting Sheriff, Steve Oelrich, stepped down to run for the State Senate.
