Why would Ward Scott want to get rid of the MTPO when he is apparently for expansion of the volume and maintenance of our roads? (http://www.gainesville.com/article/20080903/OPINION07/809030201) I am fairly new to local politics as I have only been a resident of the area for 4 years, but I am assuming that the MTPO deals with most of these issues. Who else would he have plan the development of this issue other than elected County and City officials?

I do try, but I usually get some heat from somebody about being "biased" or unfair. It's always from someone who has not bothered to lift a finger to post on this site or even leave a comment.

I am not a professional journalist, nor do you have to be in order to be a good blogger. If you are informative and just a little provocative, that's a good thing. It engenders participation, and that's what blogs are all about. It's not publishing in the classical sense. The communications are intended to be two way. That is limited at the Sun to whoever they select to publish in the letters to the editor.

I really like Alachua Voter Guide and think it just needs more publicity! I put a link on my blog so hope that helps!

I like that you do your best to remain relatively neutral on the issues. Keep on keeping on, Don!

Hi, thank you for the post on the LWV forum at Savannah Grande today. I was canvassing in the late morning and so, also, had to compete with the Gator game (although, in true fairness, who can canvass or have voter forums during a Gator game!).

I like Lorraine Sherman for the sole reason that she is the only candidate that has had experience on the criminal defense side. I do believe it important to be balanced in that way.

As far as the controversy of traffic and congestion, growth vs. less growth, I think we need to beef up our public transportation, locally and statewide, and create more opportunities for business zones that have more pedestrian traffic and are located in areas that allow people access to work and shopping. I realize that this is just not possible for a lot of people who live out of town or in rural areas; better public transportation, park and rides, and carpooling opportunities need to be sought after more aggressively than in the past.

I would greatly oppose any talk of eliminating the MTPO; having worked on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board I have personally met with and worked with many of the members. They are all good people and are working for the good of the city and its citizens.

Beltways are not the solution; we need to decrease our dependence on personal automobiles and so decrease the traffic and congestion we have presently.
