Questions for the Candidates

January 16, 2009 By: Don Marsh Category: Candidates

I have sent these questions to each of the declared candidates for the Gainesville City Commission. I told them the answers will be going here, so let’s see what they have to say.

1. Where do you stand on the Transgender bathroom ordinance?
2. Do you think a compromise could have been reached? If so, what would you offer?
3. Do you think the city was right to reject the building of a new coal plant?
4. How should the city deal with revenue shortfalls? More taxes and fees or fewer services?
If you want to add to these, use the comment field. Or if you want to weigh in, do likewise. First time comments will be moderated, but after that, your comments will automatically be approved. So participate!

  1. I absolutely favor ALL people having equal rights. Regarding the transgender ordinance, as the old adage states, “It’s not what you say, but how you say it”. Therefore, while the language in the current ordinance may present possible legal issues for the City of Gainesville; my thoughts are with more legal research and better language to frame this ordinance this could have very easily been a Win-Win situation for everyone.- Marcia Wimberly for Gainesville City Commissioner District 1 01/23/2009

  2. So, what kind of language do you favor? The voters deserve to know ahead of time.
